Great NEWS!

Animal Health Services is now featuring a Giant Flat Screen HD TV in their lobby and we are inviting your non-profit organization to have a listing on our programming schedule for FREE!

What is Animal Health Services Television?

Animal Health Services Television is pet programming created by our marketing department specifically to target pet owners and pet lovers that come through our doors. This will allow them to be educated and entertained while in our lobby! The program loops about every hour for 24 hrs a day. These programs are also streamed in all 6 of our examination rooms!

Imagine! With about 250-300+ people walking through our lobby doors each day your organization can reach a potential exposure of over 9,000 times a month. Your promos are reaching your target audience of pet owners and pet lovers 100% of the time!

But that’s not all. As a part of our Animal Health Services Television program you will also be invited to have your organization listed on our website. Our website has had over 100,000 page views since inception 5/2010 and growing! But still—that’s not all! We will also list your events on our social medias and online promos.

Why is Animal Health Services able to provide these services for free?

Animal Health Services has become the “go-to” pet wellness and emergency organization in Cave Creek and the surrounding areas. In order to “Pay it Forward,” we are very serious about our support of the local pet & business community. Not only have we supported local pet rescues, wildlife rehabilitation and various pet service groups over the years, we answered the call of the area pet owners and became a 24 Hr Pet Urgent & Critical Care facility in March 2011.

We also take our role in supporting the local businesses very seriously as well. We are active members in the Carefree/Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce and Cave Creek Chamber of Commerce. For the last 3 years we have been the pet event organizers for Cave Creek Wicked, four-time trophy winner at Fiesta Days Parade, (2009-2011), participants in the line-up of the Cave Creek Summer Lecture Series (2009), participants in Cave Creek Balloon Festival (2010), accredited member of BBB, accredited by AAHA, member of AzVMA, member AVMA, and supporter of the Fido Bag Program in which we trained local and distant first responders in how to save pet lives in an emergency or fire.

What do I need to do for my non-profit pet organization participate?

As a part of our information sharing program we are offering this service to the non-profit pet related organizations for FREE with participation through link exchanges. Through our link exchange we only ask that you reciprocate by posting a logo link on your homepage and affiliations page of your website(s).

House concert with Kristen Plambeck

MARCH 16th

A note from President, Kelly Quinn:

We are holding a benefit concert on Friday March 16th and we certainly need your help and attendance. We will have great food for purchase (if you decide to come a little early), great music and some really nice silent auction and raffle prizes. We have limited seating . Please come, bring a friend and have a great time with us. Please RSVP or pre-pay as soon as possible.

We took in some pups a couple months ago from a high risk shelter in Texas, and an older dog from Phoenix with heartworm and suddenly we were up to $13,000 in vet bills in 3 weeks. We planned ahead, we’re not destitute, but we need to refill the coffers for the next emergencies that come our way. Even if you can’t attend, buy a ticket or just send a donation. We’re good stewards of your donations and we do a lot with a little through the efforts of our volunteers. No one gets a salary in our rescue – every penny supports the needs of the dogs we rescue. Help us out if you possibly can.

AHS ISSUES VALLEY WIDE PET HEALTH ALERT

Potentially 2 New Strains of Distemper Affecting Pets Throughout the Country

(PHOENIX) – As cases of the highly contagious, often fatal distemper disease surface throughout the Valley, the Arizona Humane Society(AHS) is issuing a community wide health alert to pet owners within Arizona. While increased occurrences of distemper typically arise in the spring due to an increase in the number of litters of puppies, signs of the disease are appearing much earlier as cases have recently emerged as far away as Florida, Ohio and Georgia.

There is also evidence to suggest that two new strains of distemper indigenous to Europe have made their way to the U.S. and while the typical incubation period for distemper is one to two weeks the new strains may have even longer incubation periods. In addition, distemper was once thought of as a disease that primarily affected puppies who have not had all of their “puppy” shots; however, there is evidence of older pets with unconfirmed vaccination histories becoming infected with the distemper virus.

This extremely contagious whole body viral disease is shed in bodily secretions of infected animals and spread via inhalation. Once inhaled, the virus moves to the lymph nodes where it begins reproducing. The virus then spreads to the blood and the cell lining of the respiratory, gastrointestinal, urogenital and central nervous system of infected animals. Symptoms vary from dog to dog, but often include: discharge from eyes/nose, coughing, lethargy, lack of appetite, callusing of nose/foot pads, vomiting, diarrhea and seizures.

While AHS vaccinates all animals upon intake into its shelter, it is imperative that the community is diligent and does the same by updating their pet’s vaccinations as directed by their veterinarian. Distemper, just as the equally fatal parvovirus, is a community problem. Therefore, people must be very careful when taking their pets to communal areas such as dog parks or other public areas with unknown dogs. In addition, unvaccinated dogs are at high risk for contracting the disease. Currently, there is no specific treatment or cure for the distemper virus.

For dogs suspected of having distemper, it is imperative that they be checked by a vet immediately and isolated from other dogs within the home. In the event your pet is diagnosed with the distemper virus a thorough cleaning of your home with disinfectant is necessary.

AHS is taking every precautionary measure available to ensure the health of the animals in our care and in our community. In addition, AHS is working closely with our vaccination representatives as new information becomes available while also working in conjunction with Oklahoma State University regarding a research study so we can gain more information on the deadly virus.
