What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical

Your vet at our Cave Creek pet clinic will give your pup or kitty a comprehensive physical checkup to get a full understanding of your pet's overall health. The routine wellness exams performed by our veterinarians include the following: 

General Condition

The physical condition and general demeanor of your pet can provide us with clues to their overall health. Their alertness level, how they stand, the way they walk, and their weight for their size are all key indicators of their health.

Coat & Skin

At your cat or dog's checkup, your vet will examine your pet's coat and skin for signs of any problems, such as excessive oiliness or dryness, dandruff, lumps, bumps, or abnormal hair loss or shedding.

Face & Head

The eyes, ears, and nose of your cat or dog will be checked for discharge or abnormalities. We will also examine their mouth for signs of an oral health problem such as plaque buildup or periodontal disease. 

Internal Health

Heart rate and rhythm, pulse, and blood pressure are extremely essential to the health of your pet's heart. We'll test these to make sure they are normal. We will also examine the lungs for signs of abnormal breathing. 

We then check the lymph nodes for swelling or pain, and we will also examine the abdomen to make sure the spleen bladder, intestines, kidneys, liver, and stomach all feel normal, and that your cat or dog' isn't exhibiting any signs of discomfort. 

Review of Findings

At the conclusion of your pet's check-up, your vet will designate time to talk to you about any concerns they might have in terms of your cat or dog's overall health and talk to you about their nutritional requirements. 

Checkups for Puppies & Kittens

Puppies and kittens require a specific level of medical attention during their first several weeks of life to get off on a healthy start. 

Your vet will provide your new best friend with necessary vaccinations, a full physical examination, and deworming medications. We'll also test for intestinal parasites. You'll be given a puppy or kitten 'kit' with samples and educational material to assist you in caring for your new adorable friend.

After your puppy or kitten's checkup is complete, you'll return periodically for their required booster shots. 

Seniors

With the new advancements being made in veterinary medical knowledge and care, as well as the newer therapies and better nutrition available, senior pets are living longer than before.

This is amazing news for pets and their owners, it also means that their health requires special attention as they continue to age. Once your pet surpasses middle age, routine checkups become even more important to ensure their continuing health and longevity. 

On top of the routine wellness exams our vets perform for all adult pets, we'll give special attention to your senior cat or dog's potential geriatric conditions, such as arthritis or decreased vision.

Further laboratory tests might be suggested for aging pets to get more detailed information about your senior pet's overall health and wellbeing.
